Postdoc in induced pluripotent stem cells and the blood-brain barrier 1007503

A postdoc position within the field of blood-brain barrier transport is available at the Department of Biomedicine at Aarhus University, Health, from 1 January 2019 or shortly thereafter.

Research area

The postdoc will primarily work with setting up human blood-brain barrier models based on human induced pluripotent stem cells from normal and patients with Alzheimer’s, ALS and diabetes.

The project is part of a 5-year Horizon2020 IMI grant, which includes academic and industrial partners from many European countries. The position is for a 24-months' period but the position will be continued with an additional 2-years position, which the successful candidate will be to apply for.

The kick-off of this project is scheduled to be 1 December 2018 but due to ongoing contract negotiations, this date may be postponed.

A relevant PhD is mandatory and the perfect candidate will have a broad background in blood-brain barrier and cell biology. Priority will be given to candidates with competences in one or more of following techniques: confocal imaging, in vitro BBB models and induced pluripotent stem cells.

The candidate will be employed at the Faculty of Health at Aarhus University, where he/she will be associated with the BBB group headed by Associate Professor Morten S. Nielsen.

The Department

The Department of Biomedicine is part of the Faculty of Health, Aarhus University, and employs some 450 people and covers a range of research areas. The Department has an international vibrant research environment where English is the preferred language in the laboratory, at meetings and at seminars. The Department contributes to the bachelor’s degree programs in medicine, molecular medicine, odontology and the master's degree programs in biomedical engineering and medical chemistry. Modern laboratory facilities with associated support, core and animal facilities provide the framework for our research.
