Assistant Professor in Renal Cell Physiology 1003708

The Department of Biomedicine, Aarhus University, Denmark, invites applications for a 1-2 years assistant professor (adjunct) position starting Autumn 2018.

Research area and project

The research aims to identify and characterize novel signaling mechanisms that underlie the development and pathogenesis of salt sensitive hypertension and the role of potassium in the maintenance of blood pressure. These studies make use of a variety of cell and animal models and gene knockout mice.

Qualifications for this position

The applicant must hold a PhD within biology, physiology, cell biology or molecular biology and be able to commence work in autumn 2018. All applicants will be assessed by an independent committee to determine if they are qualified to be employed at the assistant professor level. Applicant must have had international research experience resulting in peer-reviewed publications. Prior documented experience with cell culture, biochemical techniques (including ELISA, protein purification), immunocytochemistry (including semi-quantitative confocal imaging), western blotting, and qRT-PCR is required. Experience with and certification in rodent experiments, including the use of balance studies in metabolic cages, blood and urine collection, and biochemical analysis of serum/urine is essential. Knowledge of proteomics based approaches is a distinct advantage, as is a background in the research area. The candidate must have excellent communication skills in spoken and written English and a strong record of recent publications in international peer-reviewed journals. The successful candidate must demonstrate a drive and capacity to work independently within a larger research group, supervise students and to develop this specific research field. Previous experience in the development of grant applications is also recognized.

The place of employment is Aarhus University and the place of work is Department of Biomedicine South, Wilhelm Meyers Allé 3, DK-8000 Aarhus C, Denmark. The laboratory encompasses highly skilled technicians, postdocs, PhD students, and varying number of research year students and has a strong basis in the field of renal epithelial cell biology.
