Vice-dean for Talent Development at Health, Aarhus University

Are you passionate about developing and working towards fulfilling the visions for talent development and increased collaboration with our external partners at Health? Do you hold management experience and are you a renowned researcher with a strong international outlook within Health’s research areas? Do you have experience with strategic talent development and building external relationships? If so, one of the most attractive positions at the Faculty of Health, Aarhus University, can be yours as from 1 March 2019.

As the Vice-dean for Talent Development at Health you will engage in close trust-based cooperation with the Faculty’s senior management and the Dean’s Office to further develop an academically strong and ambitious faculty thereby allowing us to attract, develop and retain superior research talent and strengthen collaborations with partners from both industrial and the public sector.

In this role, you will be key as support to and further develop the foundation for agile research environments with a strong focus on talent development and ample possibilities for external collaborations.

Through your work you inspire ongoing dialogue and include students and staff alike to exert influence and ensure a firm rooting of strategic initiatives within the Faculty. Talent development and increased collaboration with external partners are focus areas at Aarhus University, and you will be working side-by-side with vice-deans from the three other faculties of the University. Together we will offer talent development and possibilities for external collaborations at the highest international level.

You pave the way for talent development and increased collaborations with external partners
You will, among others:

•Further develop the framework for talent and career development, including the development of extracurricular pre-graduate and post-graduate talent development activities.
•Pave the road and set the targets for increased collaboration with the industrial and public sector external partners.
•Promote activities that strengthen career opportunities for the “growth layer” up to the associate professor level.
•Be strategically responsibility for the PhD training program at Health.
•Build bridges to the business community, including contact to corporations, establishment of partnerships aiming to develop extracurricular pre- and post-graduate training activities, industrial PhDs and post.docs as well as shared positions.
•Drive forward the internationalisation efforts at Health relating to pre-graduate extracurricular initiatives and post-graduate activities, including international recruitment and establishment of joint programmes with partner universities.
•Participate in the efforts made to promote responsible conduct of research.
•Alongside the vice-deans of the other faculties, participate in the university-wide Committee on Research and External Relations of Aarhus University.
•Collaborate with the remaining members of the senior management at Health to ensure that Aarhus University will keep moving forward as an international elite university addressing main societal challenges.

As the Vice-dean for Talent Development, you form part of the Dean’s Office and the Senior Management Team at Health, both of which are headed by the Dean. The daily management rests with the Dean, the Vice-dean for Education, the Vice-dean for Research and the Administrative Centre Manager and the head of Secretariat. You answer to the Dean at Health.

Your daily efforts are supported by the Secretariat of the Dean’s Office and the faculty’s administrative officers, and the joint efforts are characterised by strong social coherence and an informal tone.

Health is one of four faculties at Aarhus University and consists of five departments. We offer training programmes within the entire field of health sciences, e.g. physicians, dentists, sports and public health science. We offer training programmes of the highest quality, and Aarhus University is ranked among the world’s top 100 universities. A workplace characterised by respect, curiosity and enthusiasm.

The faculty unites the core healthcare research areas to reflect the close relation between the University and healthcare. Aarhus University, Health, has more than 30 years of experience within formalised researcher training, and the faculty’s researcher training programme is one of the largest PhD schools in Denmark, counting about 600 students.

We employ approx, 3,000 staff, including around 1,250 scientific staff members from across the world and our Faculty is thus both internationally and culturally diverse. The Faculty enjoys a unique, close and long-continued collaboration with all hospitals in the Central Denmark Region and Aarhus University campus, where many staff members hold shared positions and thus serve both Aarhus University and Aarhus University Hospital. In particular, the collaboration with Aarhus University Hospital on research and training is strong, and has served as an example to follow for various other countries.

The Faculty’s finances are well-balanced, and the annual turnover is approx. 1.3 billion DKK.

Recruitment procedure
This is a fixed-term position filled for a period of up to 6 years, with an option to extend the period for an additional 3 years.

The Vice-dean is appointed by the Dean. The recruitment and appointment procedure is in accordance with the Danish University Act and internal university provisions, which, among others, involves the establishment of an advisory group and an appointment committee.
