Professor of Translational Psychiatry, Department of Clinical Medicine, HEALTH, Aarhus University 928932

A full-time position as Professor of Translational Psychiatry is available at the Department of Clinical Medicine (DCM), Faculty of HEALTH, Aarhus University.

The position is created with the goal of strengthening the crosswalk between preclinical, clinical and epidemiological psychiatric research at the DCM. Therefore, the successful applicant has experience conducting studies at all of these three levels of research.

The main focus of the appointed Professor is to be on affective disorders, but in order to facilitate collaboration between the psychiatric research units at DCM, applicants with research experience involving other mental disorders, such as child- and adolescent mental disorders, psychotic disorders and geriatric mental disorders, will be preferred.

An important future focus of psychiatric research at DCM is measurement-based care / personalized medicine. Therefore, the successful applicant has experience in the development and validation of tools that can potentially guide treatment decisions in clinical psychiatry.

The Professor is expected to initiate, encourage and participate in productive research collaborations both internally at the DCM, but also with external national and international partners. Furthermore, the appointee is expected to teach courses at both the undergraduate and graduate (PhD) level. The appointed Professor shall supervise research projects conducted by pre-graduate students, PhD students and post.docs. In relation to the research supervision, an important task will be to aid junior colleagues in publishing their research findings. Therefore, the successful applicant has a strong track record in publishing his/her own research and ideally also experience from editorial positions in international peer-reviewed journals in the psychiatric field.

The candidate should document a strong international network and applicants having spent time at a research institution outside Denmark will be preferred. Furthermore, the applicant must have demonstrated ability to attract funding for research.

Communication of research findings beyond the scientific community is of high priority for the DCM. Therefore, the successful candidate has experience in communicating the results of his/her research to the general public – both nationally and internationally.

Required qualifications

Applicants must hold a MD degree as well as a PhD degree within a field relevant to the position.
In making the appointment, emphasis will be placed on the extent, quality and originality of the applicant’s body of international scientific publications, including contributions to further developing the subject area in question. Moreover, an assessment will be made of the applicant’s research management abilities.

A maximum of ten of the publications of greatest relevance to the job must be submitted.
