The Department of Clinical Medicine at Faculty of Health at Aarhus University invites applications for a position as Postdoc in the field of Integrative Neuroscience as per 31 October 2024 or as soon as possible thereafter. The position is a fixed-term full-time position.

As a Postdoc at the Department of Clinical Medicine, you will be part of what is probably the largest health science research department in Denmark. Our clinical research covers all the medical specialities and takes place in close collaboration with the university hospital and the regional hospitals in the Central Denmark Region. The department has overall responsibility for the Master's degree programs in medicine and in molecular medicine. At the department we are approx. 425 academic employees and the same number of PhD students cooperating across disciplines. You will be working in the Center for Functionally Integrative Neuroscience (CFIN). You can read more about the department here and about the faculty here.

CFIN is an international and strongly multidisciplinary research centre at Aarhus University Hospital located at the department for clinical medicine. CFIN has a state-of-the-art neuroscience facility including a 306 channel TRIUX MEG system (Elekta Neuromag), MRI systems (Siemens TimTrio 3T, magnetom Skyra 3T), PET, TMS, EEG, eye-tracking, olfactometer, and more.

We provide access to state-of-the art infrastructure, a competitive salary, a stimulating international research environment, free Danish classes (if desired), and a friendly environment with an excellent work-life balance. We are located at the heart of a beautiful campus in the centre of Aarhus surrounded by green areas and lakes, five minutes away from the beach on a bike, and within reach of beautiful forests and other opportunities for outdoor activities. Aarhus is also a young, vibrant, costal city with world-class venues for art, music and culture.

About the research project

We are seeking a qualified candidate to actively contribute to the continuous development of the Gaussian-Linear Hidden Markov Model (GLHMM) toolbox. In this role, you will be responsible for applying and validating statistical testing methodologies using datasets obtained from MRI and MEG modalities, with the goal to publish in a peer-reviewed journal.

Moreover, you will be involved in the design and implementation of novel machine learning techniques, utilizing both publicly available datasets and those collected by our research group.

These approaches will leverage brain data to improve the stratification of current diagnoses and clinical information.  Our overarching objective is to comprehensively characterize the heterogeneity of disease causes and symptoms, ultimately leading to more individualized treatments and improved accuracy in diagnoses and prognoses.

Your job responsibilities

As Postdoc in CFIN your position is primarily research-based but may also involve teaching assignments. You will contribute to the development of the department through research of high international quality. Your main tasks will consist of:
  • Independent research of high international quality, including publication.
  • Development of statistical software and documentation, to be published as open source.
  • The position is research-oriented but might involve some teaching assignments.
  • Apply for funding.
You will report to Professor Diego Vidaurre.

Your competences
