Profile

I am a teaching associate professor in sport science with expertise in humanistic and social science theory and methods. My primary field of work include teaching and supervision, but I am also involved in educational development and research. I serve as a member of Anti Doping Denmark's research committee and editoral board member of the international research network, the Human Enhancement Drugs Network (HEDN).

Research

My primary research area is the use of doping substances in recreational sport, in particular young men's use of anabolic steroids and other muscle-building substances in the context of fitness and strength training. I am also conducting research related to other forms of non-medical use of medicines such as use of semaglutide (the active ingredient in Ozempic and Wegovy) in relation to weight loss. I use both quantitative and qualitative methods in my research.

Teaching activities

I teach courses on philosophy of science, qualitative research methods, and sports policy in the bachelor's and master's degree programmes in sport science. I also teach a course on intervention design in the master's degree programme in public health science.

I supervise sport science students as well as students in public health science and medicine in a range of topics related to sport, exercise, and health, including health trends, body modification, doping, drug misuse, and health promotion.

Consultancy

I am member of Anti Doping Denmark's research committee where I serve as an external expert in doping research within the humanistic and social science areas. I have also provided consultancy services and given presentations to a range of public sector organisations based on my research, such as the national anti-doping agencies in the Netherlands and Norway, Aalborg Municipalicy and The Danish Healthy Cities Network.

Job responsibilities

My primary areas of responsibility are teaching and supervision of students in the Bachelor's and Master's degree programmes in sport science (the humanistic and social science profile). I am also involved in educational development and research.
