Profile

I am a consultant in respiratory medicine with a PhD in clinical science and a special interest in severe and complex lung infections. My research focuses on conditions such as tuberculosis, non-tuberculous mycobacteria, and complicated bacterial infections – with the aim of improving diagnosis and treatment.

Research

I research serious lung infections such as tuberculosis, mycobacteria and lung abscesses. Using clinical and epidemiological studies, I aim to improve diagnosis and treatment – and raise awareness of these often overlooked conditions. I also serve as PI on several industry-sponsored studies in COPD, bronchiectasis and infections.

Teaching activities

I teach tuberculosis, pneumonia and other serious infections in the medical degree programme, using a case-based and engaging approach. My aim is to help future doctors understand these diseases in depth. I also teach on the Molecular Medicine programme and contributed to the latest edition of the Danish medical textbook Medicinsk Kompendium.

Collaborations

I collaborate with respiratory and infectious disease departments in Denmark, Scandinavia and Germany on research and clinical exchange. The goal is to establish joint studies on rare diseases, where international collaboration is essential to include a sufficient number of patients.

Consultancy

I chair the Danish Respiratory Society’s committee on lung infections, drawing on my clinical and research experience. I also serve on the advisory committee on prioritisation and differentiated healthcare efforts under the Danish Institute for Quality in Healthcare

Job responsibilities

I work with serious lung infections such as tuberculosis, non-tuberculous mycobacteria, lung abscesses and fungal infections. I also treat patients with COPD and bronchiectasis – often vulnerable individuals where illness and social hardship are closely linked.
