Profile

As a PhD student, my research lies at the intersection of orthopaedic and plastic surgery. I am particularly interested in musculoskeletal infections resulting from trauma and/or orthopaedic procedures, such as joint replacement or cancer-related surgeries, soft-tissue reconstructions and their tissue healing effects, and antibiotic pharmacokinetics. I have a backround as an MD and am currently engaged in a research project on soft-tissue reconstruction of injured bone using a new animal model.

Research

My current research focuses on developing a novel porcine model to investigate how soft-tissue reconstruction supports tissue healing and antibiotic delivery to traumatised and/or infected bone. Clinically relevant large animal models are essential, as randomised clinical trials are difficult to conduct, and retrospective data cannot determine whether one reconstruction type is superior. The project aims to improve treatment strategies for orthopaedic patients.
