Health receives new professor specialising in dermatology

More research activities, better treatment options and new knowledge about the basic molecular mechanisms underlying several skin diseases: That is the goal for Claus Johansen, newly appointed professor of molecular dermatology at the Department of Clinical Medicine.

Claus Johansen conducts research into inflammatory skin diseases such as psoriasis. With a background as a molecular biologist, he is particularly interested in creating a better understanding of the genetic and immunological processes that drive the dermatological diseases. In the long term, this knowledge can be used to improve treatment options for patients.

Right now, Claus Johansen, who is also affiliated with Aarhus University Hospital, is involved in a research project in which he and his colleagues are examining the significance of a specific gene for the effect of biological treatment in psoriasis patients. Their data suggests that psoriasis patients respond more favourably to treatment if the patients have a specific mutation in this particular gene.

Claus Johansen took up his professorship on 1 March 2023.
