Associate professor receives DKK 11.4 million for research on stress and brain vulnerability
Associate Professor Asami Tanimura from the Department of Biomedicine has received a grant from the Novo Nordisk Foundation to establish a new research group focused on how early life stress affects the development of the brain.

With support from the Novo Nordisk Foundation, Asami Tanimura will lead a new research project at Aarhus University. Her research will investigate how stress-inducing experiences early in life, such as bullying or neglect, can affect brain circuitry and increase the risk of developing mental health issues later in life.
Asami Tanimura’s research aims to uncover the fundamental mechanisms underlying the brain's vulnerability to stress - knowledge that can be translated into targeted interventions for healthcare professionals, educators, and policymakers.
“This grant gives me a unique opportunity to build my own research program and strengthen my role as a research leader. It also supports new interdisciplinary collaborations that can enhance our understanding of how the brain develops vulnerability to stress,” says Asami Tanimura, who was born in Kyoto, Japan.
