Christian Morberg Wejse from the Department of Clinical Medicine at Aarhus University and the Clinic for Complex and Multidisciplinary Medicine at Aarhus University Hospital aims to identify and study the barriers facing patients with an ethnic minority background in the Danish healthcare system during treatment.

The grant is to finance a research project in which three PhD students at hospital clinics in Aarhus, Odense and Hvidovre, respectively, will describe the patient pathways of refugees and other migrants, from their initial health assessment to hospital treatment and the period just after.

"Our hypothesis is that migrants and ethnic minorities experience significantly more challenges navigating the healthcare system than the majority population, especially due to language and sociocultural barriers. The aim of our project is to come up with concrete solutions that can improve quality of life for the most vulnerable patient groups," explains Christian Morberg Wejse.
