New professor: How do diet and lifestyle affect our health and the climate?
Christina C. Dahm has been appointed professor of epidemiology at the Department of Public Health at Aarhus University. Her research focuses both on how diet and nutrition impact our health, and on the causes and consequences of overweight and obesity.
Christina C. Dahm’s research is twofold. As a professor, she will continue her quest to understand how we can compose diets that are both healthy and sustainable, while also seeking to explain why the prevalence of overweight, particularly among children and young people, continues to rise.
Her work spans from analyses of Nordic dietary patterns and the climate footprint of organic foods to studies of how the physical and economic conditions of neighbourhoods affect health.
“The professorship is a huge recognition of my research, but also of the strong collaboration within my research group and with external partners. It is a joy and an honour, and it will provide a significant boost to my interdisciplinary collaborations and project applications, where a professorial title makes a difference,” says Christina C. Dahm, who is currently affiliated with the Aarhus Institute of Advanced Studies (AIAS) as an associate fellow.
She sees it as a central aspect of her research to contribute knowledge that matters to the general population.
“Everyone makes choices about what they eat and how much they move – although not all choices are equally free. My research aims to help build a better evidence base for both individual and societal decisions about health and sustainability,” she explains.
