News from the Chair

Spring is on its way – daffodils bloom and so does hope. This sounds like the perfect timing for announcement of our next issue of the Inflammation Network newsletter, which has had a makeover. Therefore, we are happy to publish the April issue of the newsletter with several topics, updates, and important meeting dates.

Trine Mogensen - Chair in The Inflammation Network

2024 is already shaping up to be an eventful year in the Inflammation Network. Most recently, we could celebrate the 4th Inflammation Network Day with more than 100 participants at Aarhus University Hospital. The event included excellent keynote talks by Professor Santiago Gonzalez from Switzerland on intravital imaging of the inflammatory response in the lymphatic compartment and Professor Claus Henrik Nielsen from Rigshospitalet on low grade inflammation and the role of oral microbiota in human disease – just to mention a few – as well as inspiring flash talks by younger researchers on topics related to infection, inflammation, autoimmunity and beyond. We hope to see you again next year in March!

We would also like to draw your attention to the so-called LightRail Seminars that are now offered three to four times a year. This topic-specific seminar series aims to bridge basic and clinical research within inflammation & infection carried out in the yellow buildings in the University campus and in the red buildings at the University Hospital in Skejby, respectively. The overall aim is to create awareness of and provide an overview of ongoing research within own institutions in Aarhus. On February 8th, we had a seminar on “Neuroimmunological and infectious disesases in the brain”. Please stay updated at our network website about the three upcoming LightRail Seminars planned for the remaining part of 2024:

  • May 13th “Friend or foe: The connection between cancer and inflammation”

  • October 10th “Measuring inflammation in health and disease”

  • December 3rd “Kidney inflammation: Insights, challenges and therapeutic approaches”

Last but not least important, we would like to inform you about a new subject-specific PhD programme in inflammation & infection that we have in the  pipeline in collaboration with the Graduate School of Health. The PhD programme, which is headed by Professor Torben Steiniche and Professor Vivi Schlünssen, will provide PhD students with an in-depth understanding of on both non-communicable diseases and infections, through multidisciplinary study of the role of inflammation in diseases and prevention. We will encourage you to keep an eye out for more information, which will follow in June in Inside Health, department newsletter etc.

Happy spring!
