Won Yong Kim and his research group work with MRI scanning with the primary aim of refining, evaluating and applying heart scanning to produce better and more accurate diagnoses of cardiovascular diseases.

Won Yong Kim is also a consultant at the Department of Cardiology at Aarhus University Hospital, and his research is particularly important for patients with symptoms of atherosclerosis of the heart. Atherosclerosis of the coronary arteries is a very common condition, especially among the middle-aged and elderly. According to the researcher, it will be a major step forward for medical science if it proves possible to diagnose the disease using MRI scanning – a completely harmless and safe method.

It is the new professor’s hope that in the foreseeable future, it will be possible to translate the latest research results into clinical use and thereby secure the best possible diagnosis and treatment for cardiac patients.
