Profile

As a medical doctor and clinical researcher, I focus on osteoporosis in chronic kidney disease, including the effects of disturbances in calcium and phosphorus metabolism on bone fragility. My work is mainly on non-invasive diagnostics of osteoporosis in CKD and the evolution of bone and mineral disturbances after kidney transplantation. I have a strong international profile with collaboration with prominent reserachers in my field and active roles in European and global organizations.

Research

Clinical research in the field of chronic kidney disease – mineral and bone disorders, with particular focus on CKD-associated osteoporosis and mineral metabolism disturbances kidney failure and after kidney transplantation.

Teaching activities

My teaching obligations are in particular practical and case-based (bedside) training of medical students and medical doctors in training. Furthermore, I am active in research dissemination as an invited speaker at national and international conferences.

Collaborations

I emphasize synergy between my research area and clinical work, and have been instrumental in initiating multi-disciplinary team conferences aiming to provide optimal care for patients with kidney disease and complex disturbances in bone and mineral metabolism.

I am active in a national network of colleagues with a special interest in bone and vascular disease in chronic kidney disease. In 2024, the group received a major grant from the Novo Nordisk Foundation supporting 3 collaborative research projects.

I have a strong international profile with active collaboration as well as board positions in European and global networks and organizations.

Job responsibilities

Establishment of research group focusing on bone disease and mineral metabolism disturbances in dialysis (1 PhD student) and after kidney transplantation (2 PhD students).
