His daily work takes place in Paris in the role of Senior Vice President at Stallergenes, a leading international pharmaceutical company in the field of allergy treatments. Now Poul Sørensen has been affiliated with Aarhus University as Honorary Professor.

He has spent more than 20 years carving out an international career in the biotechnology and pharmaceutical industries, where his focus has been on the research and development of new concepts and medicinal products in the field of cancer, inflammatory- and allergic diseases.

"My consistent focus has been translational immunology. That is to say, how we translate basic scientific knowledge about molecular disease mechanisms into new treatment therapies of diseases of the immune system," explains Poul Sørensen.

He is looking forward to advising the university on matters relating to collaboration with the pharmaceutical industry.
"Together the two parties can take the research to new and higher levels and ultimately translate new knowledge into better drugs, as well as into growth and jobs," says Poul Sørensen, who is both pleased and honoured by his appointment.

"I'm very much looking forward to being able to continue and expand the good collaboration that I have previously had with both the faculty and the students. The professorship also provides me with a good opportunity to come back to Aarhus more often," he says.

Poul Sørensen has an MSc in Molecular Genetics from the former Institute for Molecular Biology at Aarhus University and a PhD in Biochemistry from the University of Copenhagen.
