New professor strengthens research into children's incontinence and kidney diseases
Konstantinos Kamperis has been appointed professor at the Department of Clinical Medicine. His research focuses on kidney diseases in children and adolescents, with particular emphasis on incontinence, bladder function, and congenital malformations of the kidneys and urinary tract.
“Bedwetting and daytime incontinence affect around ten percent of all children and are highly stigmatised conditions. My goal is to uncover the genetic mechanisms and physiological processes behind these problems and to develop new treatment options that can improve children's quality of life,” says Konstantinos Kamperis.
The new professor at Health is also a consultant and paediatric specialist at the Department of Paediatrics and Adolescent Medicine at Aarhus University Hospital. Among the topics he is examining more closely are the role of sleep and circadian rhythms in nocturnal enuresis, genetic aspects of incontinence and urinary tract malformations, and the impact of environmental factors on kidney and urinary tract diseases.
“The professorship allows me to expand my research group and strengthen international collaboration. I aim to help Aarhus University and Aarhus University Hospital become among the world’s leading research centres in paediatric kidney diseases,” he says.
As course coordinator for the fifth semester of the medical degree programme, Konstantinos Kamperis also plans to develop the curriculum and integrate modern teaching methods. The semester has a strong international profile, with up to 60 international exchange students each year.
“I look forward to preparing medical students as well as possible for their future careers as doctors, while also contributing to the university’s goal of increased internationalisation,” he says.
