Inspiring keynotes, thought-provoking panel discussions, poster sessions, and the Aarhus Declaration on Global Health. This year's MatchPoints on "Global Health Challenges and Solutions" was a great success. Take a look at some of the pictures from the event here.

Our global health is under pressure, the mental health is suffering, diabetes and heart disease is on the rise, climate change is affecting communities and WHO predicts a deficit of 10 million health care workers in just seven years. This years MatchPoints Global Health Challenges and Solutions tried to tackle it all during the two day conference. Inspiring keynotes, postersessions, panel debates and the Aarhus Declaration on Global Health all brought forward new perspectives and possible solutions. See pictures from the conference here.

At the conference, we will address some of the most pressing challenges facing our global society: the inequality of health, the disparity in access to healthcare, vaccines, and treatments, climate change, humanitarian crises, and the prevalence of diseases such as diabetes and heart disease. There's certainly enough to worry about - no wonder our mental health, as will also be discussed, is suffering globally too,” said Professor and Academic Chair, Christian Wejse in his opening speech.
Participants at the MatchPoints conference are encouraged to comment on and provide suggestions for 'The Aarhus Declaration on Global Health.' Around 20 years ago, MatchPoints launched as a conference that not only has an academic focus but also aims to strengthen and emphasize the collaboration with the city of Aarhus and its population. This year's theme is extremely important for all of us. The world is global, and we depend on everyone working together to address the health challenges facing the world," said Rector Brian Bech Nielsen, as he opened the conference.
The MatchPoints conference is once again facilitated by journalist Jacob Rosenkrands.
In his speech, Chief Executive, City of Aarhus, Martin Østergaard Christensen, emphasized the importance of the issues that the conference focuses on. 'We can learn and draw good experiences from this year's conference. The problems that MatchPoints addresses are what we at Aarhus Municipality call 'wicked problems.' Problems that can be difficult, if not almost impossible, to solve. But I hope that during this conference, I will learn how we can make a difference and push some of these issues forward.
Author Hanne-Vibeke Holst was invited to speak about the research for her book 'Like the Plague', which was published shortly before the Covid-19 pandemic, and deals with how we, as a society, tackle a global pandemic.
Pandemics are about life and death, our emotions are at play and the whole planet is affected. We all have to take precautions to save ourselves, our country, and the world. What really interested me was to expose this crash-test to the global community. How would we morally and politically react if the whole world was under pressure at the same time? Would we protect our moral values and ethics? How would the global collaboration be?" said Hanne-Vibeke Holst about her thoughts when she wrote the book.
To tackle Global health, we need to have strong healthcare workforce, systems and focus on primary healthcare, - that is the true resilience, said Director General of the Danish Health Authority, Søren Brostrøm. He also underlined, that the world cannot afford to forget that there are still almost one billion people in the world, who live in abject poverty, as well as a huge refugee crisis not only stemming from the Ukrainian war, but from crises stricken areas around the globe.
