The Rising Star: Mette Julsgaard receives European research award

Clinical Lecturer Mette Julsgaard from Aarhus University and Aarhus University Hospital has been awarded The Rising Star – one of the most prestigious European research awards for young researchers in hepatology and gastroenterology.

Mette Julsgaard, from the Department of Clinical Medicine, is the first researcher from Aarhus University and Aarhus University Hospital to receive The Rising Star award, and only the fourth Dane to receive it since its establishment in 2003.

The award is presented annually to the ten most talented researchers in hepatology and gastroenterology, and Mette Julsgaard is recognized for her research on chronic inflammatory bowel disease and pregnancy.

As a clinical lecturer, she conducts research on the treatment of pregnant women with inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD) and examines how treatment affects the patients' children. Mette Julsgaard is also working on establishing a national clinic in Denmark for preconception and pregnancy planning for IBD patients, focusing on providing evidence-based treatment and equal access to care.
