You also get to experience:
The course consists of a theoretical and a practical part, which provides an outstanding background for contemporary clinical orthodontics.
The education consists of:
In particular: The course starts with a series of comprehensive lectures about growth and development, followed by theoretical and practical sessions about diagnosis, enabling the participants to take orthodontic records and to set the proper orthodontic treatment goals.
A theoretical background of biomechanics in clinical orthodontics is then provided. Wire bending is introduced in the practical sessions, with typodont courses applying individualized biomechanical force systems to solve specific clinical problems. A special focus is set on the role of various types of appliances in clinical orthodontics, in children, adolescents, and adults.
Finally, diagnosis and orthodontic management of impacted teeth, temporomandibular disorders, and interdisciplinary treatment are discussed. Treatment of patients affected by juvenile arthritis and cleft lip palate are introduced as well.
The participants do not treat patients, but can shadow the clinical activities at the Section: The participants have the chance to visit the postgraduate clinic, where the theoretical principles acquired during the course are applied.
Participation in the morning seminars of the postgraduate students is not mandatory but possible and highly recommended.
The 2024 / 2025 programme will be a combination of physical attendance and webinar lectures by a group of excellent internal and external international speakers.
The Aarhus International Short-Term Course in Orthodontics extends over a period of 6.5 mandatory weeks and 15 webinars:
Plus one optional week, 26 - 30 May where participants can attend the activities in the postgraduate clinic and study orthodontics cases in the section’s library.
Admission to the course requires a dental degree (MSc / DDS) from a recognized institution and good knowledge of the English language (see below).
The number of positions available is limited to 10-12. The small number of participants allows the academic staff and the external lecturers to optimize the teaching activities and the adaptation of the course to the participants' specific needs.
The lectures and webinars are given in English.
There are no compulsory requirements about the English level. However, a good level of English is beneficial for the applicants to our International Short- Term Course.
