As of March 2014, Søren Peter Jørgensen is employed in a joint position by Aarhus University and the Regional Hospital of Horsens. The aim is to strengthen the collaboration between the university and the hospital.

As academic coordinator Søren Peter Jørgensen will integrate the research collaboration between Aarhus University and the Regional Hospital of Horsens. In practice he will come to supervise the hospital’s researchers and students regardless of the area of specialist training, and thus further strengthen the research efforts. Another of his tasks will be to provide strategic consultancy to the departmental and hospital management.

Søren Peter Jørgensen carries out research into patients with chronic inflammation of the intestinal system. The objective of the research is to discover improved diagnostic tools.

“We are working to find out whether D-vitamins have a moderating effect on inflammation in the intestinal system of the patients. We are also working on the possibility of improved diagnostics and treatment with the help of endoscopic examinations of the intestines,” says Søren Peter Jørgensen.

The hope for Søren Peter Jørgensen and his research team is that there will be improved opportunities for living a normal life with chronic intestinal inflammation in the long term. Moreover, it is also hoped that the quality of endoscopic examinations of patients with intestinal diseases will be improved.

Søren Peter Jørgensen qualified from Aarhus University in 2002 as a medical doctor. In 2009 he defended his PhD dissertation at the same university. In 2013 he became a specialist in medical gastroenterology and hepatology.

Søren Peter Jørgensen was born on 26 June, 1973 in Esbjerg and today lives in Aarhus.
