Clinical professor and chair Christian Erikstrup conducts research into the health effects of blood donations, and is one of the initiators behind the Danish Blood Donor Study, which has over 150,000 participants. The Biobank contains more than 2 million blood samples, and is thus one of the largest in the world. More than 100,000 participants in the blood donor study have been investigated for 600,000 genetic variants, and the study provides a platform for research into a number of diseases.

Christian Erikstrup also conducts research into receptivity and markers for infections. He has for example monitored unconfirmed cases of Covid-19, and he also examines how air pollution affects the risk of infection in a major study financed by a grant from the Novo Nordisk Foundation’s Challenge Programme.

As clinical professor and chair in Immunology, Consultant Christian Erikstrup bears the overall responsibility for clinical research and the professional development of the specialty at Aarhus University and Aarhus University Hospital.
