New podcast season on blood, drugs, and science
When faced with a corpse – how do you determine the time of death? And what does Danish urine reveal about how much cannabis we consume? The second season of the popular podcast ”Tæt på Retsmedicin” is now being released, this time taking listeners into the laboratory.

The first 10 episodes have been streamed 230,000 times. Now the podcast “Tæt på Retsmedicin” from the Department of Forensic Medicine at Aarhus University is launching a new season.
Once again, the aim is to enlighten listeners by taking them behind the scenes of a place few ever visit, but many recognize from crime novels and films.
While the first season brought listeners close to the classic forensic disciplines – such as performing autopsies or examining suspects – the second season focuses on the latest forensic research.
Researchers support the police
“We're pleased and surprised at how many people have wanted to listen to the podcast, which so far has focused on the everyday tasks at the department. In the new season, we talk about future forensic investigations that are research-based,” says department head Christian Lindholst.
Next to his office, researchers are working on developing methods to determine the exact time of death or tools to identify people using 3D scans of teeth after major natural disasters.
In the first episode, which will be available on Spotify and podcast apps from July 10, researchers from the department explain how they are close to determining how long after ingestion laughing gas can be detected in blood, urine, breath, and saliva. If they succeed in developing a reliable method to trace laughing gas in impaired drivers, it could influence legislation and help prevent traffic fatalities.
Like the first season, the new season is produced by journalist Jakob Kehlet.
