New professor strengthens the use of CT imaging in the treatment of heart patients

New professor at Aarhus University, Bjarne Linde Nørgaard, conducts research into CT scans of the heart, which are then combined with mathematical algorithms to provide unique knowledge of the health of heart patients and form the basis for decisions on treatment.

Bjarne Linde Nørgaard hopes the professorship will help to establish better, cheaper and gentler diagnostic algorisms for the treatment of patients with coronary artery disease. He is also employed as a consultant at Aarhus University Hospital.

New professor at the Department of Clinical Medicine, Bjarne Linde Nørgaard, conducts research into the use of CT scans and visualisations of the heart and the surrounding blood vessels. Among other things, he examines the possibilities of characterising flow and pressure in the coronary arteries based on cardiac CT images combined with new advanced mathematical algorithms. The goal is to establish better and more individualised diagnostic and treatment options for heart patients with coronary artery disease.

Bjarne Linde Nørgaard also examines the effect of using CT images as a guide for inserting a stent in patients with narrowing of the coronary arteries. In addition, he investigates whether patients in a rehabilitation process have increased motivated to live a healthier life, if they see the images of their own coronary arteries.
