Clinical Placements

Erasmus+ Traineeship/Internships

International Relations Office at the Faculty of Health are not able to offer international students help in arranging clinical rotations, postgraduate clinical training or finding internships at at department/research group.

We distinguish between

  • Erasmus+ Traineeship (from within EU/EEC)
  • Internships (from outside EU/EEC)

Erasmus+ Traineeships/Internships has to be arranged directly with a relevant department at the university hospital (AUH) or a specific department/research group at Aarhus University.

This means that you are responsible for the initial contact to the relevant professor, researcher or research group and for planning the Erasmus+ Traineeship.

You should have a clear motivation and argumentation for your traineeship when initiating contact.

Please note: Erasmus Trainees/Interns are not enrolled as students at Aarhus University or be able to participate in lectures/courses. They will not get any official university documentation (transcripts). They are not automatically insured and should arrange for full time liability and accident assurance during their stay at Health.

If a department at the university hospital or Aarhus University agrees to host a visiting international student for a clinical placement, the host department is the sole responsible part for monitoring the learning requirements of the visiting student. The doctor in charge at the department, where the clinical rotation takes places, does all signatures regarding the clinical placement. Most doctors at the university hospital are teaching doctors at the university and will there for have an AU-stamp as part of their signature. Furthermore Arhus University Hospital is a close collaboration and research partner to Aarhus University and the doctors are fully capable of signing relevant documents.

Praktisches Jahr

If you are a Medical student from Germany, who wish to come to Aarhus University Hospital as part of your Praktische Jahr, you are welcome to try to organize a clinical placement on your own (see Erasmus+ Traineeship/Internship for further instructions and regulations)

In Denmark universities and university hospitals are separate institutions.

Visiting international students for purely clinical placements at the Aarhus University Hospital are not able to be enrolled as students at Aarhus University.

If a department at the university hospital agrees to host a visiting international student for a clinical placement, the host department is the sole responsible part for monitoring the learning requirements of the visiting student. The doctor in charge at the department, where the clinical rotation takes places, does all signatures regarding the clinical placement. Furthermore Aarhus University Hospital is a close collaboration and research partner to Aarhus University and the doctors are fully capable of signing relevant documents.

For some students from Germany this presents an issue because the German authorities requires that the dean of a faculty signs that the students have had the same responsibilities as a Danish student during their internship. Since international students on self organized clinical placement are not enrolled as students at the university, the dean does not sign these document. We can provide you with a signature from the an administrative officer at the university (typically the departmental international coordinator) verifying this requirement.
