Academic Council at Health

The council must ensure the co-determination and involvement of employees and students and help to ensure a high academic standard at Health.

What is the Academic Council?

The Academic Council is an advisory body. It advises the dean on research, education, and collaboration. This means that the Academic Council helps influence the direction in which the faculty should move.

The Council advises the dean on, for example:

  • The faculty's strategic matters.
  • The faculty's budget and budget principles.
  • Strategic research and education areas and plans for knowledge exchange.
  • Quality assurance and development of the faculty's research environment, programs, PhD programs, and research-based teaching.

The Academic Council also establishes appointment committees when lecturers and professors need to be appointed, and the council awards PhD and doctoral degrees.

What influence can I have as a member?

As a member, you can have an impact on the academic and professional aspects at Health.

For example, you can participate in discussions on how the faculty:

  • Prioritizes its resources.
  • Attracts the most skilled researchers and educators.
  • Ensures a high academic level.

How do I become a member of the Academic Council?

Elections are held for Aarhus University's various councils, boards and committees once a year.

Which representatives can be voted into the Academic Council varies within a 4-year period.

The members of the Academic Council are elected for different periods:

  • scientific staff are elected for 4 years at a time.
  • PhD students are elected for 2 years at a time.
  • students are elected for 1 year at a time.
  • technical-administrative staff (observer status) are elected for 4 years at a time.

When the next election to the Academic Council will be held, you can see at the election secretariat's overview of AU Elections in the coming years.

On the election secretariat's website is a Guide to notifying candidates for elections
